MSK Help app: Accessibility statement

The MSK Help app has been decommissioned. New downloads may not be possible.

Any previous downloaded versions may still be accessible on your device but we recommend looking at the muscle, bone and joints section of NHS inform for the most up to date information.

This accessibility statement relates to the NHS 24 MSK help mobile application (app) and explains how accessible this app is, what to do if you have difficulty using it, and how to report accessibility problems.

This app is run by NHS 24.

Using the app

You can use the NHS 24 MSK help app to get information on common muscle, joint and back problems. It also includes exercises and videos to get you moving safely.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this app. This means you can use the built-in accessibility features on your device to:

  • invert colours and adjust contrast levels
  • increase the text size without the text truncating or overlapping
  • navigate the app using Switch Access (Android) or Switch Control (iOS)
  • get around the app using Voice Access (Android) or Voice Control (iOS)
  • listen to the app using TalkBack (Android) or VoiceOver (iOS)

We have also made the text in the app as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this app is

We have identified some accessibility issues within the app and are actively addressing these.

Known issues include:

  • visual tools, such as exercise videos, provide no audio guidance
  • some images do not have a useful description for screen readers, for example an image taking users to information on back pain says 'MSK help graphic' on screen reader devices
  • some clickable areas and interactive elements are too narrow and may be problematic for people with limited dexterity, for example the play bar on videos should be extended for ease of use
  • the main menu at the bottom of the app does not have a readable label for screen readers making it difficult to use
