Support is available in your local health board if you:

  • require an interpreter at your vaccination appointment
  • need help finding transport to your vaccination appointment

General help with planning your public transport journey is available on the Traveline Scotland website or by phoning 0141 465 1878 (open 24 hours).

If you’re unable to leave your home (due to your mobility or physical ability or mental health condition) or if you need additional support at your appointment (for example, someone to support you when you arrive or a private space to be vaccinated), phone the national vaccination helpline on 0800 030 8013 and your request will be sent to your local health board.

If you require a BSL interpreter or a deaf-blind guide at your vaccination appointment, please phone 01896 809250 or email Vaccination.BookingHub@borders.scot.nhs.uk as soon as possible.

Telephone interpreting for other languages will be available when you arrive at your appointment (via Big Word or language line). There is no need to arrange this before your appointment.

NHS Dumfries and Galloway

NHS Lothian

All clinics can provide telephone interpretation services. Please let the vaccinator or registration team know which language you require. For verbal interpretation, a call will be made to The Big Word service, you and your vaccinator will be connected to an interpreter. You do not need to arrange this telephone service in advance of your visit.

To arrange a BSL interpreter at your appointment, please call the Vaccination Enquiries Helpline on 0300 790 6296 or email loth.vaccenquiries@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk . A member of the Translation and Interpretation Team will help to arrange this for you. This needs to be pre-arranged before your appointment.

Language Line Insight app is available at all vaccination clinics for spoken language interpretation. NearMe video interpreting can also be used. BSL interpreters are available between 9.00am and 5.00pm at Caird Hall and Dewars Centre. They can be requested outwith these times and at other sites if required.
